“Early Dawn” is one of the latest briefs for my composition work with Richard. A journey on the early train to London this morning gave me a perfect opportunity to do some research.
The first signs of brightness in a dark sky….I’m hearing soft layers of music slowly building, with a bluesy ostinato bass beginning to emerge….open intervals from the brass section creating an expansive effect and announcing a scattering of small sparkling motifs on soprano saxophone.
As the sun begins to peek through the clouds I’m reminded of an Alice Oswold poem: “It begins, it begins, it begins. It never stops.” I listen to a beautiful chord unfolding in my head.
